Our Story
Fanosia exists because buying a light in Egypt is harder than it should be.
Not because there is nothing to buy — there is plenty. Because of everything around it: a delivery date that turns out to be a suggestion, a price that depends on how you ask, a return policy that exists until you try to use it, and a showroom that stops answering the phone once the money has moved.
That gap between the promise and the delivery is the thing we set out to close. The lamp is the easy part. The experience is the product.
The name
Fanous — فانوس — is the Egyptian word for lantern. It carries a specific set of associations here that no English word does: light as celebration, as welcome, as something handmade and passed down. It is also the object itself, hammered brass with light escaping through cut metal, which is still the most beautiful thing we know how to make.
We took the name because it is ours. The ambition is to carry it further than Egypt, but this is where it starts and this is where it belongs.
What we actually promise
Three things, written down, so you can hold us to them:
Delivery in 2–4 days in Cairo and Giza
Up to 7 days elsewhere in Egypt. Measured in working days from when your order is confirmed, not from some optimistic moment in the future. Most of this market quotes 7 to 10 days, and often means more.
Returns with free pickup and a refund in 72 hours
Message us within 14 days. Our courier collects the piece from your door — you do not pay return shipping — and your money is back within 72 hours of collection. We do not ask you why, we do not inspect the box for a reason to refuse, and there is no restocking fee.
The reason this matters is simple: a return policy that punishes you for using it is not a return policy. It's a deterrent.
Three years of warranty
On every piece, against manufacturing defects. Not on the expensive ones. Not on the ones bought this month. Every piece.
What we won't do
We put this in writing too, because it is easier to hold a line you have published:
- No invented discounts. No crossed-out price that was never charged, no permanent "70% off". If we run a real promotion we will say what it is and when it ends.
- No fake urgency. No countdown timers that reset, no invented stock counts, no "12 people are viewing this". If we say two left, there are two left.
- No borrowed photography. Every image on this site will be of the product we are actually selling. Where a spec is not yet confirmed with our supplier, we would rather leave it off the page than guess at it.
Some of these cost us conversions. We know. They are still the terms.
Where the products come from
We curate rather than manufacture — for now. Our range comes from Egyptian workshops and established manufacturers, chosen piece by piece rather than taken as a catalogue. Every product here earned its place; nothing is stocked to fill a category.
Over time that changes: our own designs, our own supply line, and eventually a Fanosia look you could recognise across a room. That is the plan and we are at the beginning of it.
Who we're for
Mostly, people setting up a home for the first time — the couple furnishing an empty flat with a list and a budget and no particular desire to become experts in Kelvin ratings. That is why we write guides instead of brochures, and why our size guide gives you the formula instead of just telling you to call.
Also interior designers, who have their own route in, and anyone who has bought a light in Egypt before and would prefer this time to be different.
Where we are now
At the start. We are a new brand with a small, deliberately chosen range and a set of promises we have not yet had a thousand chances to prove.
What we can offer in the meantime is that the promises are written down, in public, in specific numbers — and if we ever fail to keep one, you will have this page to point at.
